How Does CoolSculpting® Elite Work?
Weight loss and fat reduction are two different things. All adults will have a mostly fixed number of fat cells throughout their adult life. When they create a calorie deficit to lose weight, those fat cells don’t go anywhere—they simply shrink. Those fat cells are also likely to become enlarged again in the future if given the opportunity.
CoolSculpting® Elite isn’t a weight-loss treatment. Just like the original CoolSculpting® device, the latest version reduces the volume of fat in targeted areas by cooling the tissue to temperatures that cause fat cells to freeze and die without harming the surrounding muscle, skin, and more.
CoolSculpting® Elite Treatment Details
A CoolSculpting® Elite session prompts the body to metabolize the killed fat cells and gradually flush them out of the body through a process known as cryolipolysis. This is the same science underlying the original treatment, but with CoolSculpting® Elite’s state-of-the-art design, the newer device can reduce fat cells in a larger number of areas—all in less time and with less discomfort than the older version.
The CoolSculpting® Elite machine is more efficient because of its more compact design featuring C-shaped applicators that complement the natural curves of the body instead of the previous U-shaped cups.
These C-shaped applicators allow for increased tissue contact (the cooling area is increased by as much as 18 percent), improved suction, and more uniform results. The treatments are typically faster and are a more comfortable experience for patients.
What Parts of the Body Can CoolSculpting® Elite Treat?
Nine areas can be treated with CoolSculpting® Elite: the submental (below-the-chin) area, male chest, upper arms, abdomen, flanks, side/back where bra rolls form, below the buttocks where banana rolls form, inner thigh, and outer thigh.
Patients can have two separate areas treated at the same time in one session with dual applicators. Each treatment is fully customizable, and we will develop a plan for you based on the areas you want to treat.
Results and Recovery from CoolSculpting® Elite
The CoolSculpting® Elite treatment is completely non-surgical and requires little to no downtime. Patients may experience some bruising and swelling for up to one week, but all of their normal activities can be resumed as soon as they’d like. Some patients experience minor discomfort, redness, and skin sensitivity for a few days after a session. Results are noticeable within three weeks. The fat cells are metabolized within the next four to six months.
Who is a Candidate for CoolSculpting® Elite?
Male and female patients who have bulges of subcutaneous fat in specific areas tend to be good candidates for this treatment. Please note that it isn’t intended for use on the visceral fat found in the abdominal cavity.
CoolSculpting® Elite is not a weight loss procedure and is not a solution for obesity. The cosmetic treatment best for someone who is generally close to their ideal weight but who has a few small areas they want to treat. Patients should be in good health and at a stable weight. Anyone who has loose skin, cold urticaria, Raynaud’s, severe varicose veins, dermatitis, or other cutaneous lesions may not be eligible for CoolSculpting® Elite.
