A typical Kybella® session at Albuquerque’s Western Dermatology Consultants involves a round of injections, up to 50, that generally takes 15 minutes to half an hour to complete—though the specific time varies from person to person.
The most common potential side effects from Kybella® are those shared by all injectable treatments: redness, swelling, and bruising. These are generally superficial effects and should fade on their own in the days and weeks after a treatment session. Other side effects are possible.
While the active ingredient begins working once injected, it can take several weeks for visual results to become apparent. This is because the body needs time to process and get rid of the freed fat.
Many Kybella® patients find that they achieve their ideal results after two to four treatment sessions, each spaced at least a month apart. In some cases, six sessions may be recommended. Clinical studies revealed that 59 percent of the patients treated needed six sessions to achieve the results they were seeking. After this, no future treatments were expected, as the effects are cumulative and fat removed from the body cannot “re-form” and continue contributing to the double-chin look.
Your individualized treatment plan will be discussed at your consultation, which will also include information on cost, side effects to watch for, and other options for getting a similar or complementary cosmetic result. For instance, some patients are inspired by new, more youthful facial contours and choose to address another common cosmetic complaint—wrinkles—with BOTOX®, hollows with a dermal filler, and more. The ultimate goal of any aesthetic treatment is to create and maintain a look of proportion and balance so one part of the face does not appear “out of synch” with the others.
