What Is Juvederm Volux?

A “weak jawline” lacks definition and may have a soft, rounded angle at the edge of the chin or jaw. People also sometimes use the term to refer to a receding chin. Having an undefined jawline is often a hereditary or familial trait, as the shape and structure of your jaw are influenced by genetics. However, while genes are a factor, aging can also affect the look of the jawline through the years. The jawbone loses volume over time, and there is less support for the surrounding soft tissue. Furthermore, asymmetry in the jawline area can make the rest of the face look out of balance.

Although there’s nothing physically wrong with having a weak jawline—it doesn’t indicate a health problem and it won’t affect your ability to function—cosmetic treatments like Juvederm Volux can help to give it a more chiselled appearance.

Juvederm Volux is a soft gel injected beneath the skin to enhance the look of the bony edge of the jaw area by adding definition. Like other Juvederm® fillers, Juvederm Volux is made of hyaluronic acid, but its formula features more structure, cohesivity, and lift capacity. It is much firmer than Voluma® and is currently the most robust filler in the collection. Whether you have a weak jawline or a typical amount of definition, Juvederm Volux can provide a more defined appearance, create more structural support, and give the jaw area a lifted look.

Juvederm Volux Treatment Details

A topical numbing cream is applied before the injections to reduce any discomfort. Juvederm Volux is injected deep into the jawline and chin. The amount of Volux you will need will depend on your face shape and other unique details.

Patients will notice an improvement right away and after just one treatment.

While you can try improving the appearance of the jaw with makeup, Juvederm Volux provides much longer-lasting results. The filler has a lifespan of up to one year.

The most common side effects are minor swelling, bruising, tenderness, and lumps that all resolve on their own within two weeks.

Who Is a Candidate for Juvederm Volux?

Juvederm Volux is FDA approved for correcting moderate to severe loss of jawline definition in patients aged 21 and over. Patients who have a history of allergies to lidocaine or other ingredients in these fillers or have had allergic reactions to hyaluronic acid fillers in the past should avoid this treatment. The Western Dermatology Consultants team can recommend other options.

What Are Some Ways to Enhance the Jawline Other Than Juvederm Volux?

If excess fat between the chin and neck is obscuring your jawline, there are ways to reduce this bulk to give the jaw a more chiselled appearance. CoolSculpting® is a non-invasive procedure that involves using low temperatures to cause fat cells to freeze without harming surrounding tissues. The fat cells are gradually flushed out of the body over time, revealing slimmer contours. This can be used to reduce double chin fat for a sharper jawline.

Kybella® is an injectable treatment that contains a substance called deoxycholic acid, which breaks down fat cells in the area beneath the chin to reduce double chin fat.

In addition to jawline contouring, patients who want to add definition to other features on the face can try Juvederm Voluma® for the cheeks and Volbella® for plumping the lips. There is a full range of dermal fillers for improving different areas of the face.
